Manchester's Legacy of Physics & Astronomy

A collection of video and audio digitised recordings of noteworthy people and events, mostly with a Manchester connection.

Blackett Centenary Lecture.

Sir Bernard Lovell presented the Blackett Centenary Lecture in the Rutherford Lecture Theatre in 1997.

1997 was a memorable year for Manchester physics. It was the jubilee of the discovery of strange particles by George Rochester and Clifford Butler in Coupland Street as well as the centenary of the birth of Patrick Blackett. A one day conference was held in celebration and Sir Bernard Lovell gave this lecture on the life and career of his former head of department.
